The California Water Crisis: A Message from Jon

With the California water crisis making headlines, many people are taking a closer look at the bottled water they are purchasing, and rightfully so. A large number of bottled water companies source their water from this drought-stricken state. At Icelandic Glacial, we are proud to source our water from a majestic, sustainable spring in Iceland – the Ölfus Spring.

The Ölfus Spring is one of the world’s largest sources of fresh water, in fact it yields so much water that the overflow alone is around twice the volume of bottled water consumed worldwide. The spring is constantly replenished by rainfall and snowmelt and filtered through lava rock. We take less than 0.1% of the total water annually. As a result, Zenith International, Europe’s leading food and drinks consultancy, has declared the Ölfus Spring to be certifiably sustainable.

In addition, Icelandic Glacial takes the following steps to remain environmentally friendly:

  • Green Energy: The water we collect flows directly into our state-of-the-art bottling plant where we take pride in running a completely sustainable operation, fueled entirely by geothermal and hydroelectric power.
  • Efficient Shipping: We ship our water using otherwise empty cargo space on vessels that are already returning to the United States and other parts of Europe.
  • Renewable Energy Projects: Under the direction of the CarbonNeutral®Company, we invest in bona fide renewable energy projects throughout the world which offset any remaining net carbon emissions.

We are committed to our efforts to remain a sustainable, CarbonNeutral® Company that takes great pride in protecting and preserving our most precious natural resource, the Olfus Spring.

So, where is your water coming from?
