Jon Olafsson: Chairman & Co-Founder

Icelandic Water Holdings, ehf, Chairman & Co-Founder, Jon Olafsson has spent the last 30 years building successful companies from the ground up and transforming them into industry leaders in a variety of fields including investment banking, entertainment, media, construction and land development.

Passionate about music and entertainment, Olafsson started to build his remarkable media and broadcasting portfolio when he founded Skifan, Iceland’s largest music recording and distribution company with distributing rights for a variety of music and film companies such as EMI-Virgin, Sony, Universal, BMG, Warner Music, Columbia Pictures, Miramax and 20^th Century Fox. Olafsson continued with his entrance into independent radio stations by co-founding the Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), before moving into television in 1990, when he took over the Icelandic Television Corporation (ITC), merging them both in 1992.

In 1999, Olafsson masterminded the monumental merger, of all of his companies (Skifan and IBC) under one umbrella to form Northern Lights Communications, Inc. (NLC) – the premier integrated media, communications and entertainment company in Iceland. Olafsson served as chairman of NLC until November 2003 when he sold everything and stepped down to co-found Icelandic Water Holdings, ehf, with his son in 2004.

Today, Olfasson oversees Icelandic Glacial water as Chairman and Co-Founder. The brand, which is born and bottled in Ölfus, Iceland, is the world’s first certified CarbonNeutral® natural spring bottled water for both product and operations. Under Olafsson’s hands-on direction, IG became an environmental pioneer in the industry, using 100% natural green energy in the form of geothermal and hydroelectric power to fuel production. Olafsson and his hardworking team are dedicated to delivering a super-premium bottled water from pristine Iceland to consumers while maintaining a “net zero” carbon footprint.
